Opening a new book
Friday, May 29th, 2009A new chapter in my life started today.
It was my last day at Amphibia Digital. I had tendered in my resignation 4 months ago, but had to keep mum about it in case clients got freaky about it.
Well, now that the puss is out of the boots, the most frequent question I’ve been asked is why, and what next? This was my farewell email to my comrades at Amphibia. And it should answer many of you guy’s questions.
Hi all,
It seems to be the tradition of anyone who leaves their work place to write that one final email. So here’s mine. The question I got asked the most since news of my intended departure broke was, “Why are you leaving?”. And I’ve always joked about my answer and used humour as my Potemkin village… mainly because it was a tad too complex to verbalise on the spot.
Put in its most abstract form, my decision was based on a deeply rooted feeling that I am currently on the wrong road. That much I know. As far as where my true calling lies? Who knows? My path may lie in poetry, photography, as Priscilla Patrick’s PA… V-dubbing junky cars. Or maybe deep inside, unbeknownst to me, is a world class yodeler.
I do not see my departure from the company as something heroic nor as a leisurely sojourn that I will be on. I do feel a bit of excitement about the world of possibilities sprinkled at my feet, but more overwhelming than anything, the uncertainties that lie on the road ahead are very unnerving. I may never find the right path in my lifetime, but I promised myself I would at least try.
This is my favourite quote from Mark Twain I thought I’d share. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
It’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside you guys, and I will miss some of you deeply. I wish you nothing but the best on your individual journeys… and please, please do keep in touch. I can be reached via snail mail, blackmail, email, phone, skype, voodoo, carrier pigeons and smoke signals. Unfortunately, I currently can’t be reached via Happy-to-Happy calls because they don’t take Al Rajhi Debit Cards. But they have a remarkable online consultancy working for them who I’m sure will fix all that.
My personal email address is good2bbald@yahoo.com. Do drop me your correspondence emails should you wish to be on my mailing list (occasionally I send out updates and naked pictures of myself to close friends).
Take care all. Send my regards to Mohd Chan the next time you see him.
Truly yours,
JeremyAlright now. Enough with that politically correct bullshit. These are the real reasons why I’m leaving:
1. TJ only makes food for himself.
2. Gary always steals my pens.
3. Harish parks too close to me.
4. Jo took a kickboxing class and re-enacted what she learned on me. She also keeps terrorising my oats.
5. Ivee passed her dengue fever to me.
6. I passed my dengue fever to Vincent but he refuses to give me credit for it.
7. Jin Jun f—ed up my Malfex site.
8. It’s a matter of time before Vinod goes postal. Best not to be around when he snaps.
9. Elaine brought me a box of doughnuts. It was the sweetest thing ever. But when I opened it, there was nothing but a piece of paper with a middle finger sketched on it.
10. Chee Keat made a voodoo doll of my penis and stuck pins into it. Oh no, I forgot, that was Elaine too.
11. Baharin never took me for a ride in his new car.
12. I suffered from countless sleepless nights from the video Bart sent me – a living, breathing cat gets its head gets sawed off, and they dig out its intestines to make nasi goreng.
13. Allysa left the company and asked me to come with her. After I resigned, she rejoined.
